ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois
*Open to all levels
Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is the traditional style and dynamic form of yoga popularized and redesigned by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915 -2009) in the lineage of SriTirumalai Krishnamacharya and leads the practitioner to understand the 8 limbs of ashtanga yoga of Patanjali.
Even though it may appear as a physical exercise from the outside, Ashtanga yoga is really a transformative spiritual experience.
INTRO INTO THE PRIMARY, step by step, breath by breath
A powerful way to cultivate a meditative state of mind and increase awareness on and off the mat!
The workshop is mindfully designed to be approachable for beginners or those unfamiliar with the Ashtanga sequence and will be taught in detail pose by pose, sequence after sequence in order to provide a harmonious flow of energy and properly integrate all aspects of the practice (breathing, bandhas, drishti, asana) in a gentle, yet profound way.
YOGA CHIKITSA – Yoga Therapy
Students will be guided through breathing and bandha exercises, often used but very little discussed, opening sequence (Surya Namaskara A and B), basic standing series, and finishing sequence (16 postures). The focus will be placed on rhythmic breath, meditative flow and counting and naming the poses rather than the direction of how to get into postures.
THE WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO PRACTITIONERS OF ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE, BOTH BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONERS WHO WISH TO DEEPEN THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF ASHTANGA TECHNIQUES, METHODOLOGY, AND PRACTICE.
Some of the topics that will be covered are:
– Eight limbs of ashtanga yoga;
– Trishtana – three places of attention: posture, breathing, and drishti;
– Vinyasa – synchronizing body with the mind, movement with breathing
as the heart of this practice;
– Yoga journey – from straightening, detoxifying and revitalizing the body to transformation of more subtle layers of experience and aspects of our being;
– Purpose of yoga;
– Yoga as a philosophy of life – on and of the mat.
